ABB Completes U.S. Robotics Facility Expansion
Automation company ABB has opened its refitted U.S. robotics headquarters and manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The expansion will support the development and manufacturing of ABB Robotics’ robotic solutions for markets across the Americas and marks ABB’s third global robotics factory expansion in three years across China, Europe, and the Americas. ABB invested $20 million in the facility's upgrade in March 2023.
The refitted facility features a 30% increase in space, a customer experience center where ABB will showcase hardware and software solutions, and a training center to educate over 3000 workers and students each year. The expanded site will also support ABB Robotics’ specialist centers, including its packaging and logistics hub in Atlanta, life sciences and healthcare hub in Houston, and AI research lab in Silicon Valley.
ABB’s expanded facility will house 30% more operating space, a training center, and a customer experience center where the company will be able to show off its robotics and automation portfolio. Courtesy of ABB.
The expansion will create 72 jobs in the Detroit area and is supported by a $450,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. ABB Robotics has invested $30 million in the U.S. since 2019 across four locations, opening its Auburn Hills manufacturing facility in 2015. The recent investment in Auburn Hills is part of a previously announced approximately $170 million that ABB is investing in its electrification and automation businesses across the U.S.
