Japanese telecommunications carrier KDDI Corp. announced that it will begin ultra-fast Internet services starting with trial fiber optic connections. The fiber to the home, or FTTH service, will deliver information to about 500 residences in Tokyo and the central Tokai area and deliver information at 100 Mb/s.
Former Infrared Components Corp. employee, Matthew Kimak has formed Custom Packaging Solutions LLC, a venture offering engineering and manufacturing services in optical systems and cryogenic and hermetic packaging. The Utica, N.Y.-based company specializes in the design and manufacture of dewars and optics primarily for infrared imaging systems. As part of the start up, Custom Packaging Solutions acquired J.A. Optics Inc., a custom designer and manufacturer of optical systems, subassemblies, and components.
