Boston Scientific to Distribute ESC Medical Laser

NATICK, Mass., July 20 -- Boston Scientific Corp. has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with ESC Medical Systems Ltd. of Yokneam, Israel, to distribute its urological technologies in the United States. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. ESC is a developer, manufacturer and marketer of laser- and light-based medical systems. ESC -- which will be changing its name to Lumenis, Ltd. and its ticker symbol to LUME -- recently acquired Coherent Medical Group, a division of Coherent Inc. in Santa Clara, Calif.
The agreement relates to ESC's holmium lasers and accessories for the treatment of urological disorders, particularly stone disease (kidney, ureteral and bladder). The agreement gives Boston Scientific exclusive rights to sell ESC's laser fibers and accessories, and co-exclusive rights with ESC to sell ESC's high-power and other holmium laser systems.
