VPIsystems, formerly VPI Virtual Photonics, the developer of professional tools and productivity systems for next generation products and networks, announced that it has hired former Nortel vice president, Charles Farrell to head its sales force in North and South America. Farrell brings more than 20 years of experience in sales and marketing management in telecommunications and networking. As vice president of sales, Farrell will expand sales efforts in the Americas.
    David M. Licurse has been named chief financial officer of Global Opticom Inc., a manufacturer of passive and active fiber optic components. In his new position, Licurse will lead a team focused on venture financing, strategic financial planning, and overall financial administration. Licurse brings to Global Opticom many years of experience in financial and operational management.
    EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. announced that Germain Lamonde, chairman, president and CEO, and Pierre Plamondon, vice-president of finance and CFO, will make separate presentations to the investment community in upcoming weeks. Plamondon will speak at the Robertson Stephens Optical Conference on July 24 in San Francisco, and Lamonde will talk at the US Bancorp Piper Jaffray Technology and Communications Conference on August 8 in Boston.
