TRW Creates Telecom Products Company

CLEVELAND, May 3 -- TRW Inc. has created a new company called Velocium, which will make high-speed components and other products for fiber optic and wireless telecommunications systems. Velocium will allow TRW to better focus on the fast-growing telecom and fiber optics markets, said TRW Space & Electronics CEO Tim Hannemann.
TRW has invested more than $300 million in an effort to bring its advance semiconductor capabilities to market, Hannemann said. It set aside another $70 million this year for capacity expansion and product development in its high-speed indium phosphide components segment.
