International Space Station Picks DALSA Cameras

WATERLOO, Ontario, May 1 -- DALSA Corp., a provider of digital imaging solutions, announced that the recently launched Canadarm2 Space Station by Space Shuttle Endeavour is using DALSA's camera technology to provide the "electronic eyes", which allow the Canadarm2 to see and function from 300 km above the earth's surface. DALSA is supplying the cameras as well as the video processing electronics located on the arm. Currently, there are four DALSA cameras located on the Canadarm2.
The Canadarm2 was secured to the International Space Station during the last space walk on Thursday of last week. The Canadarm2 will be used to repair and maintain the International Space Station during its service period of many years in space. DALSA's cameras will allow the astronauts to see while performing tasks on the exterior of the space station, such as assembling new modules for the International Space Station as they arrive on future shuttle flights. The cameras are comprised of a CCD image sensor and processing electronics, which are responsible for capturing the images within the camera. The images that are captured are then sent to computers, which read and display them to the astronauts in the space station allowing them to control the Canadarm2.
