EDO to Supply Modules For Broadband Fiber Optic Networks
NEW YORK, March 30 – EDO Corp. has won a $3.5 million contract from a global fiber optic network operator for electronic modules for use in broadband fiber optic network systems. The units, the first devices in a series of OC-192-compatible modules under development by EDO, are scheduled for delivery over the next 18 months. The modules were designed and will be manufactured by EDO's Space and Communications Products Div. at its facility in Deer Park, N.Y.
"This significant award represents the initial success of EDO's effort to apply the company's expertise in advanced microelectronic design to the multi-billion dollar fiber optic communications market," said James M. Smith, the company's CEO. "These modules are based on technology and designs developed by EDO as part of its continuous advanced research and development program for communications and space applications."
