Lucent and Eletronet Ink $32 Million Service Contract

CAMPINAS, Brazil, Dec. 14 -- Lucent Technologies will provide engineering, maintenance and operations services for Electronet, a combination of Eletrobrás, an electrical powertransmission network infrastructure in Brazil, and a national optical fiber network. Lucent Worldwide Services will provide the necessary tools to support Eletronet's 22,000-km optical network, which is currently being installed by Lucent.
Engineers from Lucent and Eletronet will work together to design and operate the network, which will incorporate dense wavelength division multiplexing and synchronous digital hierarchy technology.
This new contract is very important to Eletronet since we can now concentrate our efforts on marketing and sales and leave a major portion of the maintenance and operation of the network to Lucent, our technology partner, stated Rita D'andrea, Eletronet's director of marketing and sales.
