360networks, Norfolk to Build Fiber Net on Rail Line
TORONTO, Oct. 26 -- 360networks, provider of broadband network services and infrastructurefor telecommunications companies, Internet service providers, application service providers and data-centric enterprises, has joined forces with T-Cubed, the telecommunications subsidiary of Norfolk Southern Corp. The companies have agreed to work together to install and market a fiber optics network infrastructure on Norfolk Southern's eastern US right of way.
This unique partnership allows us to cost-efficiently expand our existing North American network along high-demand routes in the eastern US where construction corridors are narrow and difficult to negotiate, said 360networks vice-chairman Ron Stevenson.
T-Cubed is currently building an eastern US network that will span 3500 km in its initial phase. Network construction is under way on routes between Chicago and Detroit and between Jacksonville and Atlanta. The projects will be finished by the third quarter of 2001, said 360networks. Fiber optic conduits and dark fiber on those routes have already been sold to customers.
