Irvine Sensors Wins 3-D Imaging R&D Contract

COSTA MESA, Calif., Oct. 5 -- Irvine Sensors Corp.'s Advanced Technology Division has received a three-year research and development contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) worth about $3.1 million.
Irvine Sensors has been asked to contribute stacking technology and time-integration, image-processing software to help DARPA create a three-dimensional imaging system capable of building high-resolution images with low-resolution optics. Irvine Sensors' technologies will be integrated into a camera sensor module that is capable of time-delayed integration of reflected laser pulses. As each subsequent reflection is added to the prior one a time-delay will be created, separating reflections from each surface angle of the object to create a rotating 3-D image with a higher resolution than any single image that could be captured by the camera's optics, said Irvine Sensors.
