Nikon Establishes U.S.-based Advanced Manufacturing Company
Nikon has established Nikon Advanced Manufacturing Inc., an independent company that will begin operation in July. The customer-centric digital manufacturing solutions company, Nikon said, will be based in California and serve as the global headquarters of the advanced manufacturing business unit established earlier this month.
SLM Solutions Group AG and Morf3D, additive manufacturing companies acquired by Nikon in 2022 and 2021, respectively, will consolidate under the newly established company. Nikon Advanced Manufacturing will additionally take over Nikon’s existing additive manufacturing efforts.
Hamid Zarringhalam and Yuichi Shibazaki will serve as CEO and co-CEO, respectively. Zarringhalam has served as corporate vice president, co-general manager of Nikon’s advanced manufacturing business unit, CEO of Nikon Ventures Corp., and chairman of the supervisory board of SLM Solutions Group. Shibazaki has served as corporate vice president and general manager of Nikon’s advanced manufacturing business unit.
The establishment of the company is in line with the Nikon Vision 2030 strategic plan, which placed an emphasis on digital manufacturing. In 2019, Nikon established a specialized division to accelerate the launch of new growth businesses such as advanced manufacturing. Since then, the company acquired SLM and Morf3D and invested in Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies Global.
This will be the first time in Nikon’s more than 100-year history that the global headquarters of a Nikon business unit will be outside Japan.
