OMNIVISION, Leopard Imaging Collaborate on AI Imaging Solutions

Leopard Imaging, an embedded vision systems designer and manufacturer, and OMNIVISION, a developer of semiconductor solutions, will collaborate to launch AI camera solutions for autonomous machines supporting OMNIVISION’s OA8000 and OAX8000 camera video processors. Leopard Imaging provides total sensor plus image signal processor solutions using OMNIVISION’s OA8000 and OAX8000 application-specific integrated circuits.

Per the newly formed collaboration, the companies will integrate the OMNIVISION processors with image sensors into AI systems including autonomous driving, robotics, IoT, and drones. This collaboration includes hardware and software development, image tuning, and customization design and manufacturing services for clients.

OA8000 is an ultralow-power, AI-enabled video processor that supports OMNIVISION’s high-resolution RGB and RGB-IR sensors. The processor is capable of deep learning inferences on the edge. OMNIVISION’s OAX8000 is designed for the automotive industry. The processor features on-chip double data rate 3 synchronous dynamic random-access memory. The driver monitoring system (DMS) processor is integrated with a neural processor unit and image signal processor, which provides dedicated processing speeds of up to 1.1 trillion operations per second for eye-gaze and eye-tracking algorithms.

Leopard Imaging released a series of DMS cameras in 2021, which were implemented with technology from OMNIVISION. In 2018, OMNIVISION, Leopard Imaging, and Texas Instruments developed an HD automotive camera module reference design using OMNIVISION’s OX01B40 image sensor.
