JDS Uniphase Opens Manufacturing Facility in England

NEPEAN, Ontario, Canada, July 26 -- JDS Uniphase Corp., designer and supplier of products for the fiber optic communications market, has opened a 42,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Plymouth, England, to increase its ability to make fused fiber components for optical networking systems.
The new facility doubles the manufacturing capacity of JDS Uniphase's Torquay, England, facility, which was acquired last November from SIFAM Fibre Optics Ltd. The Torquay facility manufactures fused couplers, pump-signal wavelength division multiplexes (WDM), tap couplers, Raman WDMs and gain flattening filters used in optical amplifier applications. Combined, the Torquay and Plymouth facilities will employ more than 1,200 people, said JDS Uniphase.
