Cierra Photonics to Open Optical Components Facility

SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 25 -- Cierra Photonics Inc., founded in February of this year by former Optical Coating Laboratory Inc. executives Glenn Yamamoto and Mike Scobey, is opening a manufacturing facility in Santa Rosa.
Cierra will start by using its Advanced Energetic Deposition (AED) process to create a line of optical components made from wafer scale integration.
AED will enable a revolution in the manufacturing of products for optical communications, Yamamoto said. It makes possible large-scale manufacturing with very high yield but with low manpower requirements. If you think of wafer scale manufacturing as the trunk of a tree, then AED is the first branch. As Cierra progresses, there will be other branches.
