LeCroy Acquires Network Testing Firm
CHESTNUT RIDGE, N.Y., July 24 -- LeCroy Corp. has acquired Lightspeed Electronics Inc., a communications signal analysis company based in Plainview, N.Y., for an undisclosed price.
LeCroy will use the technological know-how of Lightspeed Electronics to make products that will characterize components for high-speed optical networks, LeCroy said. Such products would find use in research and development, and production tests for communications systems with 10 to 40 Gb/s data rates. The technology supports present and future generations of gigabit Ethernet and fiber channel as well as SONET signals up to OC-768.
Currently, communications applications account for more than 30 percent of LeCroy oscilloscope sales and the expansion of the global communications infrastructure is steering our technology and product development activities, said Tom Reslewic, COO of LeCroy. The Lightspeed acquisition directly follows LeCroy's strategy to rapidly expand our addressable market in the communications sector.
Lecroy's core business lies in the production of digital and analog oscilloscopes, but develops and markets electronic signal acquisition and analysis products and services as well.
