Nanotronics Announces New Manufacturing Facility in Brooklyn, NY
Nanotronics and New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul have announced a high-tech manufacturing center at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The facility will be located in the historic Building 20, a 150-year-old former shipbuilding factory, and will bring manufacturing and research and development under the same roof, with an $11 million redesign by Rogers Partners Architects + Urban Designers. The new layout promises to provide a smaller factory footprint by allowing for closer collaboration between researchers, computer scientists, chemists, physicists, and machinists.
Empire State Development has offered the company up to $2.25 million in a performance-based capital grant, part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s initiative to promote technological innovation within the state. In order to receive the full grant amount, Nanotronics has pledged to create 190 jobs on top of its existing 34 positions and invest at least $11 million in the project. The company also intends to spend at least 30% of the grant with certified minority- and women-owned businesses.
The company will partner with CUNY’s Medgar Evers College to join the START-UP NY program, which promotes collaboration between companies and universities throughout the state. The partnership will provide students with internships, workshops, training, and employment opportunities.
Founded in 2010, Nanotronics manufactures advanced imaging systems that combine robotics, optical microscopy, and machine learning and artificial intelligence platforms. These platforms provide process control for manufacturing, factory control, and research, especially in the advanced materials, pharmaceutical, life sciences, and aerospace industries, among others.
