MOEC Expands Variable Attenuator Manufacturing

WATERVLIET, N.Y., June 14 -- Molecular OptoElectronics Corp. has secured a new facility in which to manufacture its Shadow series of electronic variable optical attenuators (EVOA). The new 22,000 sq ft facility, located in Marion County, W.Va., will allow Molecular OptoElectronics Corp. to triple its production of variable attenuators by the end of the year, the company said.
We are doing this both to accommodate the rapid growth in demand that our existing customers are seeing for their optical networking systems, and to ensure additional capacity for new EVOA applications, said Kevin R. Stewart, the company's CEO. The expansion is a necessary part of our mission to keep delivery lead times as short as possible, and keep component prices in check.
In addition to its Shadow series of variable attenuators, Molecular OptoElectronics develops and manufactures a wide variety of components for optical power management in fiber optic systems. The company's headquarters, research and development team and current Shadow production line will stay in upstate New York.
