Planar Systems Moves, Boosts Production by 50 Percent

BEAVERTON, Ore., June 12 -- Planar Systems Inc. has moved to a new plant that will allow it to increase its manufacturing capacity by 50 percent. The new 70,000 sq-ft electroluminescent flat panel display manufacturing plant is located in Hillsboro, Ore. The plant began production in October 1999 but did not reach full capacity until the end of May.
The transition during the changeover went extremely well, said Balaji Krishnamurthy, president and CEO of Planar Systems. Manufacturing yields are already up to par with the old plant and we anticipate that yields will continue to improve. Planar Systems also has an electroluminescent manufacturing plant in Finland.
