Bakman Awarded $724K UAV Spectrometry Grant from NSF

Terahertz (THz) system and component developer Bakman Technologies LLC has been awarded a $724,000 Phase II grant from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF’s) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to continue the development of a low-cost, high-performance, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted THz spectrometer.

After completing the Phase I portion of the NSF grant earlier this year, Bakman has taken the first steps toward realizing a sensor platform capable of performing point detection of pollutants or other gases of atmospheric importance. The Phase II NSF funding will aid in the production of a new class of instruments that are smaller, lighter, more cost-effective, and more sensitive. They will be available in a range of performance levels to suit various markets.

Bakman Technologies was established in 2014 as a spin-off from EMCORE Corp.
