Casix Laser Inc. Acquired by JDS

NEPEAN, Ontario, Canada, May 9 -- Fujian Casix of Fuzhou, Fujian, China was purchased by JDS Uniphase on Monday. Casix will function as a wholly owned subsidiary of JDS.
The acquisition of Casix represents an important move in our global manufacturing strategy, said Jozef Straus, co-chairman, president & COO of JDS. The Casix management team has demonstrated strong leadership skills which we expect will serve us well for our first venture in China. In addition, we believe the advanced materials science expertise at Casix is a key to new generations of components for optical networks.
JDS, a distibutor of products for the fiber optics industry, will make use of Casix's technology to better supply the fiber opics market with components, crystals and optics for telecommunications networks.
