Corneal Implant Shown Effective in Treating Presbyopia
The
Journal of Refractive Surgery has published results that show the Flexivue Microlens corneal inlay from ophthalmic device company Presbia PLC to be effective in treating presbyopia, the age-related loss of near-vision.
The results of the 12-month follow-up study showed excellent near-vision sharpness, high patient satisfaction and a high rate of independence from glasses after implantation of the corneal inlay. The miniature lens is implanted in a corneal pocket created by a femtosecond laser. Clinical outcomes of three different techniques of combined cataract surgery and refractive corneal inlay implantation had no apparent differences between them.
