Lightpoint, University of Arizona Enter into Cancer Imaging Agreement
Medical device developer Lightpoint Medical Ltd. has entered into an exclusive global license agreement with the University of Arizona to develop molecular imaging technology.
Beta Emission Tomography, developed by professor Harrison Barrett, student Yijun Ding and Dr. Luca Caucci at the University of Arizona Center for Gamma Ray Imaging, enables the miniaturization of a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner for the operating room. The capability will be incorporated into Lightpoint’s image-guided cancer surgery product.
"Dr. Barrett's work in imaging technology represents a great advance in imaging for cancer surgery," said Doug Hockstad, senior director of technology transfer for Tech Launch Arizona, a University of Arizona office that works to commercialize university research. "This collaboration with Lightpoint is an ideal way to move this important work from the world of research out to where it can directly impact patient care.”
Lightpoint aims to guide cancer surgery in real time to improve health outcomes for patients.
