DRS Wins Army Sighting Systems Contract
PARSIPPANY, N.J., Mar. 6 -- DRS Technologies Inc. said that its DRS Optronics unit in Palm Bay, Fla., has received a $7.2-million contract from Lexington, Mass.-based Raytheon Co. to manufacture components and assemblies for the US Army's Improved Target Acquisition Subsystem (ITAS). ITAS is used with the Army's ground-launched TOW -- tube-launched, optically tracked and wire-guided -- missile system.
Under this contract, DRS will produce laser transmitter assemblies, ITAS traversing units and xenon tracker assemblies. DRS expects to receive future awards for a total of approximately 600 ITAS units over the next five years. The company plans to begin deliveries on this initial contract in April 2000 and to continue through 2002.
