Faro Acquires Kubit, Opens New Manufacturing Plant
Laser-scanning company Faro has acquired another software firm and opened a new manufacturing plant.
Faro acquired Kubit GmbH of Dresden, Germany, and U.S. distributor Kubit USA Inc. for an undisclosed price.
Kubit’s PointSense Plant software is used to extract piping and structural models from point cloud data gathered at a petrochemical facility using Faro 3-D laser scanning equipment. Courtesy of Faro.
Kubit provides hardware-independent tools to integrate 3-D laser scan data with computer-assisted design (CAD) environments such as Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD. Applications inlcude building information modeling (BIM), architecture and surveying.
Faro recently acquired two other 3-D modelling software firms: Aras Technologies earlier this year and The CAD Zone last summer.
Meanwhile, Faro announced it has a new 90,000-square-foot manufacturing and technology center in Exton, Pa., a short distance from its existing facility in Kennett Square.
The new plant modernizes Faro’s laser tracker manufacturing process and expands manufacturing capacity for both the laser tracker and imager product lines. Additional improvements include expanded research and development space and upgraded optical metrology research laboratories.
Faro develops devices and software for laser 3-D measurement, imaging and comparison of parts and complex structures within production and quality assurance processes.
