Newport to Acquire Austrian Firm Femtolasers
Newport Corp. plans to acquire Femtolasers Produktions GmbH of Vienna. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close this quarter, were not disclosed.
Femtolasers develops ultrafast lasers for scientific and biomedical research applications, including attosecond systems to study physical, chemical and biological phenomena at the atomic and subatomic levels.
Established in 1994, the company has an installed base of more than 850 systems in more than 30 countries.
Femtolasers’ sales are expected to be in the range of $8 million to $12 million in the 12 months after the acquisition, according to Newport. The acquired company will become part of Newport's Spectra-Physics Lasers Group.
Supplying customers in the scientific research, microelectronics, life and health sciences, industrial manufacturing and defense and security markets, Newport develops lasers, photonics and optics and precision motion equipment.
