Lasers, Optics Hold Jenoptik Revenues Steady
Sales of lasers and optical systems counteracted declines in other areas as the Jenoptik Group saw steady revenue and a nominal increase in earnings during the first half of 2014.
The company reported earnings before interest and taxes of €24.0 million ($32 million), up 2 percent from €23.5 million ($31.4 million) in the first half of 2013. Revenue in the first half of 2014 was €283.2 million ($378.5 million), the same as in the first half of 2013.
Lasers and optical systems revenue was €118.1 million ($157.8 million), up 13.1 percent from €104.4 million ($139.5 million) the same period last year. The company cited demand for laser systems for plastics processing, and new products in the medical technology and life sciences markets.
Jenoptik’s two other segments both saw a decline in revenue, which it attributed to defense project postponements and a sluggish recovery in investment on equipment, which affected its industrial metrology business.
