Standard MEMS Acquires Blue Road Research

BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 3 -- Standard MEMS Inc. has acquired fiber optic sensor developer Blue Road Research Inc., of Fairview, Ore. Nicholas E. Ortyl, president and CEO of Standard MEMS, said that the company was interested in the fiber optic sensors that Blue Road has developed to monitor the structural health of bridges, buildings, tunnels and aircraft. Ortly added that work had begun on expansion of the Blue Road facilities to accommodate the commercialization of several products.
Eric Udd, Blue Road's founder, president and CEO, will continue to manage the research and development of all of the company's fiber optic products. He also will assume additional responsibility for all corporate and government development projects.
