Jenoptik Earnings Flat in First Quarter
The Jenoptik Group reported level profits and revenues in line with expectations in the first quarter of 2014.
The company reported earnings before interest and tax of € 10.5 million ($14.3 million), down from 10.6 million during the first quarter of 2013. Revenue was € 136.9 million ($187.5 million), up 3.7 percent from € 132 million in the same period last year. Revenues rose by about 48 percent in the Asia-Pacific region and by around 7 percent in Germany.
The Lasers & Optical Systems segment reported € 58.6 million ($80.2 million) in revenue, up 18 percent from € 49.7 million in the same quarter last year, due in part to greater demand for laser systems for plastics processing.
Revenues in the Metrology segment, particularly from the automotive industry, fell 4.5 percent from € 42.8 million ($58.6 million) to € 40.8 million ($55.8 million). Orders in this segment have since increased, the company said. The Defense & Civil Systems segment brought in € 37.5 million ($51.3 million), down 5 percent from € 39.5 million ($54 million) in the same period last year.
President and CEO Dr. Michael Mertin said Jenoptik expects to achieve its yearly growth target of 5 to 10 percent.
