ARM and SMIC Broaden IP Partnership for Mobile Applications
Semiconductor intellectual property provider ARM Ltd. and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) have expanded their relationship to offer ARM’s Artisan physical IP platform for SMIC’s 28-nm poly SiON process. The collaboration’s purpose is to provide high-density, low-power technologies for system-on-chip (SoC) designs.
Under the agreement, ARM will provide a comprehensive physical IP platform for advanced process technology that supports a wide range of consumer applications targeting the smartphone, tablet, wireless and digital home markets.
ARM’s Artisan provides the building blocks to implement a range of performance- and area-optimized, low-power SoC designs. The silicon-proven IP platform offers a comprehensive set of memory compilers, standard cells and logic, and general-purpose interface products for mobile communications and computing.
The standard cell libraries and memory compilers incorporate multichannel features to enable a wide performance spectrum and to optimize the power range of SMIC’s PS process. These features ensure that power budgets for performance-critical SoC designs can be met.
