Bell Labs Names Vice President of Research
MURRAY HILL, N.J., Jan. 20 -- Lucent Technologies has appointed William Brinkman vice president of research for Bell Labs, Lucent's research and development arm. Brinkman succeeds Arun Netravali, who was named president of Bell Labs in October 1999.
Brinkman served previously as Bell Labs' physical sciences research vice president. In this role, he concentrated on converting technology developed in the labs into marketable commercial products. During his tenure, Bell Labs supplied Lucent's microelectronics, wireless and optical communications businesses with advanced components, technologies and processes. Brinkman has overseen research on wireless geolocation, multiple-antenna wireless networks, add/drop multiplexers, optical amplifiers, and all-optical cross connects.
