JDS Uniphase Purchases Oprel Technologies

NEPEAN, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 17 -- JDS Uniphase Corp. has acquired Oprel Technologies Inc., a Nepean, Ontario-based developer of optical amplifiers, test equipment, and optoelectronic packaging. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
JDS Uniphase reported that it expects to extend its product portfolio and broaden its technological base for future product developments through this acquisition. Oprel's products include erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) used in fiber-optic networks, as well as a full line of test equipment for optoelectronic devices. Oprel has also developed packaging for such devices as semiconductor optical amplifiers, high-temperature and high-power laser diodes, and distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes.
