Dense WDM Boosts Capacityof Transatlantic Cable to 1.92 Tb/s
HAMILTON, Bermuda, Nov. 3 -- Worldwide Fiber Inc.'s subsidiary, Worldwide Telecom (Bermuda) Ltd., announced that the capacity of each segment of the Hibernia self-healing synchronous digital hierarchy ring network will be increased from 1.28 to 1.92 Tb/s with the use of dense WDM technology on each fiber pair.
The WFI cable connection between Boston and Europe will be installed by Tyco Submarine Systems Ltd., and will employ 4-fiber pair, 48-wavelength technology. Hibernia will be the first transatlantic undersea ring network to utilize 48 wavelengths with a line rate of 10 Gb/s; with a capacity of 480 Gb/s per fiber pair on each segment, total capacity will be 1.92 Tb/s, fully protected.
