DigitalOptics Partners with MMD on Posture Sensing
DigitalOptics Corp. and MMD Monitors and Displays Taiwan Ltd. have partnered to deliver the first monitor with a built-in ergonomic sensor to help correct posture, DigitalOptics announced yesterday.
DigitalOptics’ Philips ErgoSensor’s detection technology uses the distance between a user’s pupils to determine whether he is sitting within the optimal ergonomic zone and, if not, how the user can adjust seating position or posture to avoid risk of injury. In addition to health and safety advantages, the device offers energy savings by powering down when no user is present. This saves 80 percent in energy bills compared with traditional monitors.
“We are very pleased that the system and software developed by DigitalOptics Corp. has enabled MMD to make the first ergonomic posture sensing and power savings Philips monitor a reality,” said Bob Roohparvar, president of DigitalOptics Corp.
“We see our new product as the forerunner of many ergonomic devices that will help consumers maintain their health while performing their computer functions in an efficient manner,” said Mayank Christian, who is director of global product management of Philips monitors at MMD Taiwan.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies Inc., DigitalOptics delivers imaging and optics products that enable expanded functionality in small devices.
