Coherent Announces Record Orders,Shipments of LightSheer Systems

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 1 -- Coherent Inc. reported record bookings and shipments for its LightSheer diode laser hair removal systems during the fourth fiscal quarter ended October 2, 1999. The company shipped more than 200 LightSheer units worth $17 million during the quarter.
In commenting on the results, Jim Taylor, president of Coherent Medical Group, noted, Hair removal is the fastest growing aesthetic procedure. It has also served to enhance sales of our other aesthetic products and comes at a time of significant growth opportunities in our ophthalmic markets. We are very encouraged by the substantial increase in sales activity of the LightSheer product family outside the United States, where an even larger percentage of potential customers reside. Sales of the LightSheer product family since our acquisition of Star Medical Technologies on April 27, 1999 have exceeded our internal expectations.
