SPIE Names Arthurs Executive Director
BELLINGHAM, Wash., Oct. 7 -- Eugene G. Arthurs has been named the new executive director of SPIE, effective November 1, 1999. Arthurs will succeed James E. Pearson, who resigned the post in February 1999 to become executive director at the Instrument Society of America. Marshall Weathersby, a SPIE staff member, has been serving as acting executive director in the interim.
Arthurs' most recent role was president of Cleveland Crystals Inc. He is a graduate of Queens University, Belfast, with a BS in physics and a PhD in applied physics. Arthurs is also a member of the Optical Society of America, and serves as the chair of the OSA Corporate Associates Activities Committee.
