Oclaro Outlines Technology Goals

Oclaro Inc., a supplier of optical communications and laser technology, has outlined its fiber laser offerings and technology direction for the future. The company expects that future pump lasers will drive pricing to well below $10/W. It also expects that they will significantly improve efficiency, reduce the packaging footprint by 20 percent and increase brightness by 30 percent.

Oclaro intends to develop higher brightness/power single-emitter chips; a range of multimode multi-emitter solutions to address various market segments (low- and mid-power); and superhigh-power solutions for kilowatt-through-fiber-combining trays. It aims to provide improved wavelength stability with grating and to expand its single-mode seed laser portfolio to include new wavelengths and low-noise options.

The company’s current suite of seed and pump lasers will be displayed at Laser World of Photonics in Munich in booth #469, Hall C1, in the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. The show runs from May 23 through 26.

Oclaro’s products have applications in diverse markets, including telecommunications, industry, science, consumer electronics and the medical field. It operates research and development, and chip fabrication facilities in the UK, Switzerland and Italy, and in-house and contract manufacturing sites in the US, Thailand and China. It also maintains design, sales and service organizations worldwide.
