Photon-Detection Records Set

Excelitas Technologies Corp. has announced record photon-detection efficiency and low dark counts in its solid-state silicon photomultipliers, low-light-level detection devices, with applications in medical and analytical markets.

In 2009, the company entered into an exclusive agreement with Max Planck Innovation, the technology transfer organization of the Max Planck Society, for the licensing of its ultrafast, low-crosstalk silicon photomultiplier technology. Silicon photomultipliers offer very high photon-detection efficiency, ultrashort response times and extremely low power consumption, making them ideal for a variety of low-light applications such as fluorescence and molecular imaging.

“We are delighted to be able to disseminate state-of-the-art results and are gratified with the strong interest in testing and evaluating Excelitas’ silicon photomultiplier technology in real experimental situations,” said Michael Ersoni, senior vice president and general manager of Excelitas’ global detection business.
