Shasta Crystals Nabs Phase II SBIR Grant

Crystal growth company Shasta Crystals Inc. announced Monday that it was awarded $493,883 from the National Science Foundation for a Phase II project.

Titled, “Low Cost High Quality Nonlinear Optical Crystals for Laser Light Sources for Miniature Projectors,” the award from the NSF validates that the company’s technology has the potential to expand into a high-volume manufacturing process, according to Gisele Maxwell, founder and CEO.

The next phase of the grant is expected to demonstrate that the company can make commercial quantities of its crystals at a competitive price point, she said.

In addition to crystal growth technologies, Shasta Crystals offers nonlinear optical crystals for visible lasers, YAG for infrared lasers and custom materials upon request.
