Raytheon Awarded US Navy Contract

LEXINGTON, Mass., July 12 -- Raytheon Co. has been awarded a US Navy contract valued at $7 million for the manufacture of five Improved Fresnel Lens Optical Landing Systems (IFLOLS). The systems will be assembled, integrated and tested at Raytheon Systems Co.'s Indianapolis facility.
IFLOLS is the primary visual landing aid on board aircraft carriers. The system plays an important role in poor weather conditions, increasing accuracy and improving visibility for precision carrier landings. According to Raytheon, IFLOLS improves upon the design and manufacturing techniques used in the Vertical and Short Take-off and Landing Optical Landing Systems previously built by the company for Naval Air Systems Command.
