Kollmorgen Acquires Italy's Calzoni SpA

WALTHAM, Mass., July 7 -- Kollmorgen Corp. has completed the purchase of its long-time naval systems partner, Calzoni SpA of Bologna, Italy. Calzoni designs and builds motion systems and components, primarily for naval platforms.
The two companies have worked together for more than 15 years on such programs as the US Navy non-penetrating periscope, and are currently paired on the Universal Modular Mast program. The Universal Modular Mast houses a submarine's photonics sensor, high-data-rate satellite communications antenna, multifunctional communications mast, and integrated electronics mast. By consolidating communications, navigation, and imaging antennas into a single streamlined mast design, the new mast eliminates the need for conventional individually-customized submarine masts.
