Ceramic Supply Company Formed

Laser Processing International, an F.J.A. Industries Inc. venue, has recently been renamed Ceramic Supply International Inc. (CSI2). The company was created to support the large sheet ceramics needed to support the semiconductor industry’s move to 450-nm wafers.

According to CSI2, anything that can be fabricated in metals now can be fabricated in ceramic. The company says its new manufacturing process permits the fabrication of very large, thin and flat ceramic substrates in 96 and 99.5 percent A12O3. Custom sizes and shapes, including numerous thicknesses and near net configurations, are available.

“The development of our new manufacturing techniques now makes large ceramic sheets to 24 x 24 inches (610 x 610 mm) and a fired thickness of 0.040 inches (1 mm) practical; this was not possible heretofore,” said Frank J. Ardezzone, president of CSI2.

Besides the semiconductor industry, these ceramics can be used in power generation, aerospace and mining industries as well. Some typical items are the following: chucks and wafer carriers for the semiconductor industry, product support tooling for flexible displays and plastic electronics, rigid high-temperature tooling for the fabrication of photovoltaic solar cells, high-temperature components and surfaces for aerospace, high-performance fuel cells, and medical components.
