Agilent Divests Varian Assets to Bruker

Agilent Technologies will sell certain product lines of Varian Inc. to Bruker Corp., the companies announced this week. Divesting certain business segments was a key requirement for obtaining regulatory approval of its Varian acquisition, Agilent said.

The product lines to be acquired by Bruker include Varian’s inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) instruments business located in Melbourne, Australia; its global laboratory gas chromatrography (Lab GC) instruments business located in Middleburg, The Netherlands; and its gas chromatography triple-quadruple mass spectrometry (GC-QQQ) instruments business located in Walnut Creek, Calif.

The two companies also intend to sign services and supply agreements to facilitate the uninterrupted delivery of products and services to new and existing customers of the three businesses, Agilent and Bruker said.

After the transaction has been completed, Bruker, a scientific instruments and solutions provider for molecular and materials research, said it intends to continue to operate the businesses from their established respective headquarters, and to retain key management, R&D, operations, sales and marketing, as well as applications and service personnel at each of the businesses.
