PW2010: New at Newport

Newport Corp. has come to SPIE Photonics West this year not only with new products but with a whole new brand strategy.

Kim Abair, director of global marketing at the Irvine, Calif.-based Newport Corp., discussed the company’s newly launched brand strategy on the show floor. “It’s a ‘house of brands’ approach,” she said, referring to the brands Newport has spun off or acquired, including Corion, Newport, Oriel, Richardson Gratings and Spectra-Physics. Abair noted that the company is launching a new website at www.newport.com within the next few days to help communicate this approach.

Some of Newport’s newest products include:

     * The Pulseo 355-10 high-power 355 nm industrial laser, which is a new addition to Spectra-Physics’ Pulseo line of Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers. The laser provides 10 W of output at 90 kHz, with a short pulse width of less than 23 ns. Applications include PV solar cell manufacturing processes from wafer scribing to dicing, marking and drilling as well as microelectronics applications: drilling via holes, cutting flex circuits, manufacturing flat panels, scribing LED substrates, silicon wafer dicing and scribing, and more.

     * The S-2000AC Stabilizer Cleanroom Isolator, an addition to Newport’s S-2000 Stabilizer pneumatic vibration isolator line. This isolator, designed for optical tables, heavy machinery and large inspection equipment, offers automatic re-leveling and cleanroom compatibility; its load capacity per isolator is 2000 lb.

     * Newport’s new line of RoHS-compliant colored-glass alternative filters – 34 longwave-pass thin-film filters in four standard sizes, designed for applications in which very steep transitions from blocking to high transmission are needed. Newport’s Stabilife coating technology ups the filters’ durability for spectroscopy, optoelectronics, immunodiagnostic testing, DNA analysis and environmental monitoring.
