Laura Marshall is named managing editor
Laura Marshall has been promoted from features and news editor to the position of managing editor for
Photonics Spectra and BioPhotonics magazines. In her new position, Marshall will supervise editors and freelance writers, review and assign news and features, direct scheduling and oversee all content prior to publication of both international magazines.
Prior to joining Laurin Publishing, Marshall was senior editor of special projects and book review editor for
The Berkshire Eagle, a daily newspaper in Pittsfield, and production manager for
Berkshires Week magazine. In both positions, she was responsible for story development, managing production, writing and photography, on-line content development, and layout and design. She also wrote a weekly TV blog for the newspaper.
Before coming to Pittsfield, Marshall was editor and Webmaster, tax team, for Thomson West Publishing in Rochester, N.Y. There she was responsible for copyreading, editing and Web site development.
She graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, with a BA in languages and linguistics and with a concentration in French, Russian and psychology. She studied in the master’s degree program in linguistics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and was co-founder of the UBC Video Production Club.
