Alight, Philips Join Forces
Alight Technologies of Copenhagen, Denmark, is working with Philips Technologie ULM Photonics of Ulm, Germany, for the volume manufacturing of its 1300-nm PBG-VCSELs (photonic bandgap- vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers). Alight currently has a high speed 1300-nm photonic bandgap VCSEL under development for sampling later this year. Philips is a volume manufacturer of high-speed multimode VCSELs at 850 nm as well as of single-mode VCSELs for noncommunication applications. Alight initially will target applications such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet LR/LRM and up to 10-km links for 8-Gb/s fiber channels.
