Lucent Forms Fiber Venture
Lucent Technologies Inc., headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., and
SviazStroy-1 of Russia have teamed up to manufacture fiber optic cable to meet the burgeoning needs of network operators within Russia and other countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union.
The new venture, Lucent Technologies SviazStroy-1 Fiber Optic Cable Co., will be based in Voronezh, Russia. Lucent will control 51 percent of the shares and SviazStroy-1, 49 percent.
The facility will hire 60 employees, with plans to hire an additional 40 production employees over the next two years. The company will produce single-mode fiber optic cable along with Lucent's TrueWave and AllWave fiber optic cable products.
