Elbit Systems, Technion Partner on Eye-Tracking Research
Defense electronics company Elbit Systems Ltd. of Haifa, Israel, and the Haifa-based Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) have signed a joint vision systems research agreement, under which Elbit will award grants to selected Technion undergraduate and graduate students and researchers in the electrical engineering department over the next five years. The vision system researchers will also have access to Elbit's advanced eye-tracking laboratory. Engineers in the eye-tracking field will examine, among other aspects, the human eye's capability to track objects in space, and qualify and categorize the objects perceived (3-D movement, etc.). Their findings are expected to help improve data fusion capabilities in determining targeted objects' outlines, efficient automatic calibration in case of overlapping cameras' fields of vision, picture reconstruction and more, Elbit said. The company uses vision systems in its helmet-mounted displays for pilots in combat aircraft.
