SPIE Changes Name
SPIE has retired The International Society for Optical Engineering as its official business name and will now be known simply as SPIE. The change was made to better represent the growing number of scientists, researchers and engineers in industry, academe and government. The society, now based in Bellingham, Wash., was founded in 1955 and today has more than 188,000 active members in 138 countries. It organizes and sponsors approximately 26 conferences and education programs annually in North America, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific.
