Companies Will Supply Compatible Devices
A group of optical chip and module manufacturers has agreed to supply compatible sources of optical transmitter and receiver devices for use in 40-Gb/s optical transceiver modules. The initiative specifies the common mechanical dimensions, footprint, pin functions and performance of the modules. It targets transmission modules for up to 2-km applications. The participating companies are Opnext Inc. of Eatontown, N.J., and Japanese companies Eudyna Devices Inc. of Yokohama, NEC Electronics Corp. of Kawasaki, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. and Oki Electric Industry Co. Ltd., both of Tokyo, and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. of Osaka and Tokyo.
