Steve Sanghi Elected to FIRST Board
Steve Sanghi, president and CEO of Microchip Technology Inc., a Chandler, Ariz., provider of microcontroller and analog semiconductors, was elected to the board of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a program founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people. Microchip is the organizing sponsor and a “Leader in Technology Sponsor” of the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Arizona Regional. It also donates semiconductor and development-tool products to all 1300 FRC teams worldwide. Before joining Microchip, Sanghi held various positions in management and engineering at Intel and was vice president of operations at Waferscale Integration Inc. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Xyratex Ltd., a member of the State of Arizona Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology and a member of the board of trustees at Kettering University. FIRST, a New Hampshire-based non-profit, hosts the FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Vex Challenge for high-school students, the FIRST LEGO League for children 9 to 14 years old and the Junior FIRST LEGO League for 6 to 9-year-olds.
